1. Give yourself the Exchange Administrator role in PIM

Open Microsoft 365 admin center
Show all - Exchange admin center
Classic admin

2. Recipients > Shared

3. Mailboxes

4. Search for mailbox name/user, open mailbox

5. Mailbox features

Retention policy. Shared Mailbox Retention

6. Change retention policy to Shared Mailbox Retention

7. Enable Archiving (scroll down if you don't see it)

Save out

Warning The user hasn't logged on to mailbox 'Carolyn Pham' ('edg7ce6a- cd8b-4330-b3b2-ac06f5a007e2'), so there is no data to retum. After the user logs on, this waming will no longer appear.

If you get this error when you open back up it's fine, just hit OK

8. Run Powershell as Administrator

9. Install-Module -Name ExchangeOnlineManagement -RequiredVersion 2.0.5

Run this to start the archiving

10. Run the following commands:

Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted
Import-Module ExchangeOnlineManagement
Close Powershell

Run PowerShell as a regular instance

11. Reopen PowerShell AS A REGULAR INSTANCE AND NOT ADMIN

12. Run the following command:

Connect-ExchangeOnline

When it opens up the prompt, make sure that you're using admin account for the Civic login page, then it will prompt a DUO push

13. Run the following command:

Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -identity USER@civicfs.com

If the above command doesn't work, follow the steps below for Start-ManagedFolderAssitant

Get-MailboxLocation -user First.Last@civicfs.com | fl mailboxGuid ,mailboxLocationType

Grab the GUID of the PRIMARY mailbox

Start-ManagedFolderAssistant PrimaryMailboxGuid

14. After the above commands, open up the mailbox/user and check that the archiving is going through (You'll see like 16kb being used, this means it started)
