High CPU/Memory/Disk Usage from FortiClient Logging Daemon

"FortiClient Logging daemon" can take up large amounts of CPU/Memory/Disk space in Task Manager, which severely slows down a user's laptop. To resolve:

  • Confirm that the user is connected to the VPN and the Log Level under FortiClient Settings is set to "Information"
  • Navigate to C:\Program Files\Fortinet\FortiClient\logs and check the file size of "fclog.dat"
    • If it is GBs large, continue to the next step. If it is only MBs/KBs in size, it is still recommended to do the next steps.
  • Disconnect FortiClient from the telemetry and uninstall it (this clears out that log file)
  • Restart the user's laptop
  • Re-install FortiClient and confirm that the CPU/Memory/Disk are at normal usage levels again
